THE GOOD SHOT / UPCOMING CLASSES

light + good / the good shot / mobile photography workshop / tahsin, the good.light + good / the good shot / mobile photography workshop / tahsin, the good.

hey!

i’m so happy to say that the last workshop in toronto was full up and it went so well. good news for me and not so good for you, if you wanted in, of course.

but, i do have some good news up my sleeve in this regard.

new classes have been added and we are taking this show on the road a bit. i’ll be running a workshop in new york - brooklyn to be exact, at a super cool media studio called operation cmyk (have you seen what they did to mario batali’s website?!!), and dubai, this rad library cafe in the middle of safa park called the achive, while traveling there for business and pleasure (love that i can check both boxes off for this!) in feb and i’ve just listed another toronto class in march to keep things moving a bit. phew, that was a mouthful!

light + good / the good shot / mobile photography workshop / tahsin, the good.light + good / the good shot / mobile photography workshop / tahsin, the good.light + good / the good shot / mobile photography workshop / tahsin, the good.

if you have been looking at stepping up your photo game whether it be for your blog, your business or your personal photos then this is the class for you. it’s a half day workshop and its focus is using your mobile phone to take your photos. now, i am in no way saying that better cameras are useless. all i’m saying is that your mobile phones camera is a powerful tool that just needs to be used right.

and this class teaches you more than a few tricks to getting a… well, good shot.

2. a new-ish shop on the block.

3. came across this website the other day. so much natural goodness here. think I might try making this for me and some friends soon.

4. we love oliver jeffers in our house. daani recieved the day the crayons quit for her birthday this year and it’s pretty freakin hilarious and very imaginative if you ask me. since we have the alphabet on our brain lately, this one might just become our new favourite. note. the day the crayons quit was only illustrated by mr. jeffers, but his hand is sooo nice. 2015/01/img_9709.jpg

5. it’s a vice for a reason.

6. i am equally scared and hopeful for the future when it comes to my girls and their (and my) realtionship with tech after watching this movie.

9. psa! prints in the shop can be customized. don’t let all that pink deter you. your home is filled with nudes and greens and blacks, no problem. just add a custom colouration item to your cart and select which colour you’d like.

10. laugh out loud, trust your gut, and find time for a little solitutde and reflection this weekend. http://lalalovelythings.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/wordstoliveby_lalalovely.jpg

LIGHT + GOOD SALE

IMG_0550

we’re having a little sale over in the shop today for boxing day.

check out some of my prints and take advantage of this special pricing for the good shot. after this past month of sales it might not come around again for a while. sorry, guys, but it’s the truth.

and i know, you are all shopped out. this past month takes a toll on our wallets and with the new year around the corner, new stuff may not be the prioroty. i get that. i really do. my headspace is more focused on renewal, setting intentions, new beginnings, the bigger picture.

IMG_0542

the thing is… for me at least, art inspires every day.

it’s a thing of beauty to continually admire, remind, and and build off of. so it may not be practically functional, but purchasing a print that speaks to you or reminds you of some good is a good investment if you ask me.

IMG_0549IMG_0546

it’s also nice to shop small! i have only had my shop since may, and am constantly working on it, adding new prints and goods as i go. it’s a labour of love and i can keep doing it only because of you! so thanks to everyone who supported during the holidays and to you in advance. ;)

click here to shop, and if you need advice on what to choose or where to hang with what you’ve already got, i am here to talk! just get at me on my insta or twitter. you can also check out my interiors and gallery pinboards for some major inspiration.

use code lightbox at checkout to get your savings. and listen, if you live local and want to save out on shipping by picking up your goods from my home studio, feel free. just send me a message in the notes during your cheackout and i will fully refund your shipping charge.

SOME THINGS / 4

20141111-003652.jpgYOU PRINT FROM $18 / light+good / tahsin, the good

1. all smiles at breakfast time is golden.
2. this past weekend was a rainy one. so fort building was on the agenda and i think it’s gonna be a thing in our house from now on. or at least for this long cold winter we are about to enter. it’s such a cozy thing to snuggle under blankets together and read a gazillion books together.
3. baby legs and new pj’s. that is all.
4. oh hello. this is toque 2/2 and i’ll be wearing it for at least half of the time you see me for the next 6 months. don’t tell me i didn’t warn ya.
5. daani’s been real helpful lately. everything she does now is because she’s “this much” (said while holding up three fingers.) i love this extra confidence and sense of capability in her.
6. a semi-throwback of me and him from a few weeks ago. we have almost no pictures of us anymore. so when i saw this on his phone i grabbed it immediately for my own records.
7. attempted beet frites yesterday, and they were eh…. gotta experiment with the cook times a bit. i still chomped them all up, the girls… not so much. i snacked on them while preparing dinner and topped our salad with a few of the extra crispy ones.
8. new print up in the shop. for me it’s a reminder of who this is all for. a You and only You kinda thing.
9. a little blurry mirror selfie. maybe not the prettiest, or most clear shots, but i like it.
10. we almost switched niyya’s crib into a toddler bed this weekend, but i got cold feet even though we switched daani from crib to bed at about the same time. i can’t, or maybe just don’t want to imagine her as a big girl. im being a little too sentimental about this, but if you can’t be sentimental about your own kids, then who on earth can you be that way with?! it will have to happen soon though, daani wants to be able to hang with her sissy in the mornings and after quiet time. she want to crawl in her bed and cuddle with her and “take all the things.”

PATIENCE & FAITH

our visits to the hospital have been happy of late.

alhamdulillah.

we watch videos, eat in-season fruit, talk about life, and cheer on baby steps and big strides. yes, my father in law is doing so much better.

some may call it luck.others, the natural course of science and the body at work. but i call it a miracle. and i don’t mean to be blunt, but my father in law was on the brink.

and he came back. and i have seen my fair share of family at this point with no return, or who have suddenly passed with no explanation.

that’s God’s will.

and work at hand. He only needs to say “be”, and it is.

still, we were so scared. but i think hopeful and patient at the same time. is that what faith is? i’m beginning to think so.

i need to continue incorporating this into the fabric of my life.

i worry about work.

and what i’m contributing to the world. a lot. and i more often than not come down on myself for not doing enough. not bringing in enough. not living up to my abilities enough. and then that leads me to question the effects this will have on my kids. and there begins the dance.

and i know that that is not a good way to be. not the routine i want to be in.

so i’m going to remind myself that it will all be ok in the end. to have faith that He is taking care of us.

its funny, i got an email about the concept of tawakkul, or having complete trust in God’s plan, at around this time of flux. and it’s a relieving thing, you know. when you fully give in to His will, every outcome is ok. it just has to be.

المقيت the nourisher.

الوالي the protecting friend.

الرزاق the provider.

but i also know that it takes work to get there. so these are my reminders and maybe they can be yours too as we’re all in this a little bit alone and lot a bit together.

LIGHT + GOOD TEES

LIGHT + GOOD TEES / tahsin, the good

some of you may know that i recently dropped a few tee designs for pre-order in my shop. and there’s been some buzz about them. yay! buzz is good. orders are good. kids in these tees is so good.

but something wasn’t right. it was limiting. the designs weren’t all inclusive. and that just wasn’t cool with me.

so i decided to add in a few other options to the tees. ready? here we go.

i heart allah tee /

the i heart allah tee speaks to my heart. i hand-screened, stenciled and dyed (yes, it was a labour of love) a cute one for daani when she was so much smaller than she is now, and i wanted that tee, or a version of it for all my little muslim buddies. but i have buddies who are not muslim. a lot of them, actually. who love and heart things too. so sweet littles, this tee is for you.

fill in your blank tee /

fill in your blank. tell me wheat you heart. peace? love? happiness? popcorn? i know you have a lot of love to give too. and that’s what this tee is about. having heart for something. and then connecting through loving. beacuse it really is that simple. we all connect through love. and loving. right?

and then the other tee is cool too. salam means peace. again, my muslim buddies know that.

salam means peace tee /

LIGHT + GOOD / SALAM MEANS PEACE TEE / tahsin, the good.

but what about those kids who don’t read arabic and just understand the language that is the peace sign. unfiltered, undefined, just peace. and peace is universal, you see.

peace is universal tee /

so what if every single kid on this earth, which i found out yesterday has a population of over 7 billion people(!!!) (i still thought it was 6 billion, man am i from the middle ages or what?), wore that tee? or raised their fingers and exclaimed and expected “peace!” and knew peace. and lived in peace. or believed in love, felt the feeling of love… and loved?

so in this day of statement tees, those are statements i want my kids to make. and hopefully with that desire for them they will want to make those statements as well. i want that for all my little buddies, muslim or not.

you can check out the details on these tees, which are designed in my studio, made in la, printed in toronto and packaged in my shop, here in my shop. all sweat-shop free, all conscious. there is a pre-order special going on now until the 20th of june. so get those orders in and let’s help raise the best generation.

peace + love.

ps. since we’re in a pre-order, for those of you who have already ordered and want to switch your style, just contact me through my shop!
