THE COLOUR WAY / CAMEL, CRIMSON, OCHRE & BLACK

THE COLOUR WAY / CAMEL, CRIMSON, BURNT OCHRE & BLACK

my eye is leaning towards this colourway these days.

it’s rich, it’s warm. cozy and perfect for fall.

so, how do you bring these colours into your real life? think orange tones for your next art project, black washi tape to tack up your real life pins, a goes-with-everything camel coat, or a a healthy mix of eggplant, tomatoes and coconut for your next meal.

SOME THINGS / 2

FRANZ KLINE / tahsin, the good

i’m going to be attending the halal food fest this weekend. i’m pretty excited because 1. i love food and 2. i never made it last year. last year i had just had niyya and while we were planning to go, it just didn’t make sense timing-wise with the little one. so i’m so glad to be going this year to check out what halal food vendors my city and beyond has to offer.

that’s how we muslims roll. we seek out halal food spots so we can get our grub on. we like to eat meat, and the menus at the regular restaurant that doesn’t serve halal meat get cut in half, most times more. seafood just isn’t enough all the time. actually, i’m ok with it. but more times when we eat out, we want the variety. the option to eat everything on the menu if we wanted. its about choice. and like i said, we like meat.

so this fest is in its second year and judging by the turnout last year it will be busy! with good food and a diverse mix of people. i love that. and actually i’m going to be hosting a meet + greet on sunday at the fest, so if you’re planning to attend, please come and say hi! i’d love to meet you. its my first official meet + greet too, so… please come by and say hi. ok?

a few things before you come -

1. check out halalfoodie.com to get your mouth watering. this site has all the reviews you’ll want and need when it comes to halal eating. and,

2. buy your tickets now! you will be sad (and hungry) if you don’t. they are $5/person, 16 and under free.

also, don’t you just love the colours in this franz kline piece. they are soooo beautiful. like oh my god, amazing.

PRAY / SOFT HEART, THICK SKIN / tahsin, the good

i have been weighed down by anger the last few days. and it was hardening my heart. those feelings of anger were getting in the way of the lightness that i usually like to feel. the openness. the lovingness. (that’s not really a word.) i pray that You can help me to soften up. be humble and own up. i take offense easily and quickly and hold on to it sometimes. help me to let it go. i’m sensitive. let the small things not bother me so much. help me to keep it light and keep it connected. to You, to the ones i love and to the ones that love me.

today this is my prayer and insha’allah it is heard.

DIP-DYED STOOLS

DIP DYED STOOLS / urban outfitters /tahsin, the good

i have been pinning a lot of furniture like this these days. i love the dip-dyed look.

DIP DYED STOOLS / urban outfitters /tahsin, the goodDIP DYED STOOLS / serena + lily / tahsin, the good

we have this stool from ikea. i would have liked it in white, naturally, but bought the black because it was the only one in stock. and i’m impatient like that. if i have it in mind that i will buy something, i more often than not, go home with something bought. it’s a bad habit, i know.

daani uses it all the time to wash up, and play around, however much we don’t love that, at the kitchen sink. now i’m thinking i should have bought the natural wood, stained it a nice caramel colour so that i could dip it for a look like the one below found here.

my only problem now is deciding which colour to do.

or should i shock with a bright like this one?

decisions, decisions….

THE POWER TEN / 7

1. she is intelligent, she is beautiful, she is talented. she is lupita nyong’o. she drops some serious gems in this short clip. oh, and she is kenyan and we share birthdays! another one to add to the growing list! check her cover story in february’s dazed and confused here. and yup, she is an oscar winner!

2. this ebook from brika was more than a little inspiring. highly creative? read this.

3. mociun’s gemstone cluster rings are so precious. unique and precious. i’m thinking a ring with our family’s birthstones would be a nice heirloom. too bad i’m not a huge fan of opal. sorry daaniya.

4. this dad has written a very powerful letter to his daughter. think i’m going to save it for mine. read it here.

5. march is women’s history month. who knew. it’s seems there’s a day and celebration for everything these days from nutella to administrative assistants. i’ve always felt a connection to women. so i’m glad my birth month shares this special recognition. check here and here for more.

6. a little well+good inspo for your morning. #possiblitieseverywhere

7. my niece slept over last week on a school night and since i had some work to do in the early morn before having to get our day started, the girls stayed in daani room and got busy playing dress up with all oft he things in her closet. it was too cute, although a bit messy!

8. dear america (and beyond), i kinda totally agree with this.

9. i am obsessed with quinoa! quinoa salad to be exact. i like it cooked with some al dente moong dhaal. the texture and taste is so good! you can switch the fruits and veggies you put in each time, and here i just added in some red cabbage slaw, dried cranberries, and baby kale. i topped it with fresh squeezed lemon juice and vinegar!

10. i have been noticing a habit of mine lately. i have a tendency of cutting people off. it’s a bad habit. and i don’t like that i do it. i think maybe it has to do with me being the youngest and having to fight to be heard and also that i get excited and passionate about things and just want to share! but there’s really no excuse. it’s rude and not nice. and i just want to be more conscious of how i speak and communicate as well as listen. so i’m trying to exercise restraint and put some of these tips in action.

PRAY / ENERGY & INSPIRATION / tahsin, the good

my mind is a constant, well almost constant, barrage of ideas. ask anyone who has had a passionate conversation with me, how things quickly jump from one thing to the next. i’m thankful for this. for the creativity in my thoughts, for the inspired view i have been given. i just pray, in addition to the continued inspiration, for the energy to make things happen. last night the husband was being awarded at a work event and i was home with the kids. that’s recipe for a great night in to work and get things done. what did i do, you ask? i slept from 7:30 to 11:30, after the kids were tucked in. i guess my body needed a recharge, and that’s ok. i just want to need recharging less and less, and more and more energy to accomplish all those the ideas that are being added daily to the bucket list.

today this is my prayer and insha’allah it is heard.

i didn’t think i would put out a valentine’s day themed post. i never really planned one out. there are many a blogger who do that to the nines. over here, it just so happened. there is a lot of love in my life and it turns out a lot of hearts. this here is just a small selection of my 14 hearts. check the tag #ttg14hearts on my instagram for more heart-spiration throughout the day. it’s an effort for me, and you to remember to love today and more importantly, to love everyday.

drew barrymore recently released a book called find it in everything. it’s in essence a photo book of hearts in everyday objects and places. it’s a pretty cool concept, and lovely for the heart. my friend has had a tumblr for years now showcasing the same sort of thing. and yup, she’s so rad she has a book too.

and on another note, another friend, the creator of the heart part, is now selling her genius design at urban outfitters, among many other cool places. (!!!) in her words, “it’s the best 3 bucks you’ll ever spend.” it so is, so click to buy and have blessed love-filled day!
