update / this giveaway is closed and the winner is shahnaz. shahnaz, please email me for details! congrats!

how niyya wears it : pink onesie / carters, leather moccassins in weathered brown / freshly picked, cable-knit sweater / last season gap, leggings / children’s place, pink ball / homesense, book / guess how much i love you by sam mcbratney

we are huge on the hand me downs in our house. we have lovely neighbours, friends and khalas, not to mention big sisters, that we get a lot of clothing from. a lot of the time you will find me writing that an item featured is from last season etc. to be honest, sometimes i don’t even know how many seasons ago some of the clothes are. if they are in good, wearable condition and fit our style, we will take it! we do not discriminate. and it’s good for the environment!

i was a huge vintage wearer in my young adult days and whenever i look back on the photos of those times, i always think. “whoa, i looked so cool then.” haha. i haven’t found the time to sift through the racks lately. i’m more of an online shopper now, but i have a feeling i’m going to start revisiting my old haunts just to mix things up a bit.

anyway, there are some great gently used stores close by for kids that one of my friends swears by. i think when it comes to picking up an item or two to round out our spring closets, we will head there first. i’ll be sure to give my two cents here once i’ve gone!

being a receiver of hand me downs myself, i know the value of something new, and think it’s nice for niyya to have every so often. one of those things these days are her new leather baby moccs from freshly picked. they are super soft, and so adorably cute. and they come in a rainbow of beautiful colours. i went for a classic with the weathered brown, but had a hard time deciding between the blush, coral or sand suede!

niyya hasn’t really ever worn shoes in her ten-plus months, (we have her bundled up in a fuchsia bear suit with footies pretty much everyday, and last summer we went barefoot,) but i am positive we will be wearing these bad boys all day, errday come spring.

  25. So I’ve been thinking long and hard about the question you posed, and I have to say, I’m pretty sure it’s a trick question….I mean, Freshly Picked moccasins are the newest basic, like a white shirt or denim jeans, they can be worn with anything, and styled a million different ways. That’s the beauty of them. And…kids love to wear them. It’s win-win. My boy, Sen, had a pair as a little one-year old toddler and he lived in them. Now he has outgrown them and a new pair is not within our family budget. Sen’s signature style is a blend of hipster and preppy, always with a pop of a bright colour, Pumpkin FP’s would be the perfect colour to go with any outfit Sen struts in, alternatively, I can’t resist the Swimmin’ with the Sharks, since it is the perfect grey and would go with any colour scheme and the name is killer (pun intended?). Most of the time I’ve got Sen is some fun graphic leggings (from an indy parent business) and bright tank top or t-shirt (again bought from a small scale parent-preneur). All that said, you can’t go wrong on colour choice, so I’m open to what’s available. Thanks for organizing this giveaway, it’s awesome. Crossing fingers and toes! Peace and love.

  26. Swimming with the sharks - and I would style them with little leggings and a super bright shirt for spring!
