HOW WE WEAR IT / 3

how daani wears it : skunk hairpin / gymboree, high-tops / last season old navy, similar here, jeans / old navy, striped teddy / osh kosh, orange board book / pantone, sweatshirt / last seaosn old navy, tee / last season old navy, similar here.

okay, this look is a little old navy overboard, but it seems to work. we mix in seasonal wardrobes here even through we are the definition of a four seasoned climate. sometimes we wear sleeveless summer tops in the winter because our house is really warm. that’s the husbands doing. me personally, i like it moderate year-round. anyways because it’s so toasty inside i just keep all the clothes out and that’s why this bright chartreuse tee is still in rotation. its good because it breaks up the fall and winter blues. daaniya was so excited on this day because we were about to hang up one of her paintings in her room. she’s building quite the gallery wall! insha’allah i will finish things up in here soon, and then i will post a room tour so we can always remember it.

how mama wears it : striped sweater / last season gap, similar here, striped turtleneck / last season j.crew, similar here, denim / zara, gold striped scarf / it was a gift from my mother in law, gold foil polka dot scarf / limited edition target, but they have so. many. scarves. it’s so worth a look. aquamarine + gold studs / ttg

every so often i get an itch. i have been wearing hijab now for the second time for a few years, but every so often i want to switch things up. try new styles, buy different patterned and printed scarves. yet still stay true to me. i think that is so important when wearing hijab - finding yourself in the veil. and it takes time. just like how tyra banks would say to her models, “put in some face time, know your angles.” we, well i, feel it necessary to put in some scarf time. lol. i want to feel comforatble, confident, stylish, and myself. i don’t want to get into things too much here, because i know how hot a topic hijab can be and i don’t really want this to be a forum to discuss correct/incorrect, right/wrong and halal/haram. so, real quick, i have been getting inspiration from all across the board, (think sikh turbans, the african headdress, 60’s and 70’s-style silk scarves, etc) and all across the net (see dina tokio, ascia akf and hana tajima.) it’s always so refreshing to see what other creatives are doing, how other people are styling this age-old piece of cloth. and at the end of the day as each hand draws a line in its own way, while getting inspired by others, we hijabis each tie our scarves in our own way.

don’t you think?
