“a portrait of my daughters, once a week, every week, in 2014.”
daaniya : she loves her kangas! and really loves sticking the corner into her nose.
niyya : so peaceful when she sleeps. both my girls are thumb-suckers and alhamd good sleepers.
this is another project i have decided to take on this year. each week i plan to take and post an individual portrait of my girls. now you may think, “well… she takes a lot of pictures of her kids on instagram already…”, but here’s the difference; these photos will be purposefully taken for this series, with a story to tell or a moment to remember. it’s a challenge to myself and a gift for my children and my family. i love looking back at my own childhood photos and want my children to have this chance too. i am also pushing myself to not use my iphone, my go-to camera of choice (although i have to admit this first entry is shot by my trusty handheld device). i plan on bringing out the big dogs (read: my dslr) for this project. i want a collection of good, quality photos, that give me more range in what i can do with them and how they look. i love me some mobile photography, but i cannot seem to print anything more than 4×4 depending on the picture. (more on printing your instagram pictures soon!) so it will be a learning experience for me as well. i have faith that my photos will get better and better with each passing week and that by the end of the year i will be way more proficient with my canon and will have 104 beautiful photos of my babies.
that leads me to the other reason i want to do this. my kids are growing so fast. Like, too fast. each new day brings a new nuance and spark and i don’t want to forget these moments in time. so much has happened in the last two years and time is only slipping further and further away; before i know it they will be mini adults.
i had followed along on one very inspirational mama’s 52 week project last year here, though as i dug a little deeper found that it was this creative mama’s idea to begin with. these projects only inspired me to capture our family’s moments as well. i am finding myself in really good company as some of my favourite mama-bloggers are partaking in this project for 2014. check out ana, christine and gray, to name a few, who are sure to inspire along the way!
join me in this project or simply follow along on our journey. i’ll be posting here on the blog and also on instagram under #52faces.
oh yeah, i’m already a week behind, but that’s just because i’m a late bloomer ;). you’ll see a catch up entry mid week, insh.
