there have been a few things we’ve needed desperately for the kids to keep them happy while here. books, diapers, sippy cups etc. but I also had a few essentials that i noticed i really needed while away in a hot locale. here are just three of my most used for walking playas main street, 5th ave.
• sunnies / i brought and used both of my $5 pairs. i’m a cheap sunglasses lover over here. they get lost or broken too often to want to spend more than $15. joe fresh and street vendors are my favourite spots to pick up a pair. this doesn’t mean i have a million pairs. or that i buy them all the time. just two to three and they get used till they are done. i had a pair like the ones pictured from joe for two years, then at the beginning of the season they snapped (these things happen with two munchies running/crawling around,) so i found a replacement in kensington market. i love this shape. the other pair I found at aldo accessories and they are more current being round and all. and I love the gold detail. i can’t seem to find them on the site, but i’d go with the brooksby, carron or krya styles now.
• over the shoulder phone case / at first i thought it would be silly to have a “purse” case, but omg it’s so handy, and hands-free! and this might be the only way i’ll get mine on a chanel boy bag for a while. so it’s a win win win! i picked this one up at pacific mall. every other shop has these and versions of them for all your devices. the ones for the samsung s5 are pretty cool because those phones are so big!
and lastly, a
• fan / it’s uber hot here and those ladies of the south knew what they were doing fanning themselves cool all the time. i found this in a small shop in playa and love that it’s black, (read, chic) colourful, (but not overtly so) and handmade. i have been using it every single day since i got here and brought a few back home with me to use and sell in my shop. with all the heat and humidity we get during our summers, long-hair-don’t-care and hijabi girls need this kind of extra coolness, right?!
what are some of your on the street essentials when traveling or for your day to day?
