FAMILY DINNER / EL CATRIN

a few weeks ago we finally made it out to el catrin, a mexican resto in the distillery district. we had tried once before, but didn’t make it inside as we were sans reservations. not cool either as we were hungry and it was soo bloody cold out. oops, we’ll likely not make that mistake again.

so anyways this time we planned ahead a little, went on a monday, and felt a little more at ease that we could guarantee a meal out together. i love this area. it feels like another land with its red brick buildings and roads and green windows and doors. a nice old feel in the heart of the city.

and el catrin is a beautiful restaurant, well designed, in a dia de los muertes kind of way. the food was good too. will we go back? i’m not sure. the husband wasn’t too impressed. we like our homemade guacamole better and the portions were on the small side. it’s more of a tapas style place and great for sharing. we tried out the baja fish tacos and a ceviche, i forget which kind. their watermelon agua fresca was a hit though! and our waitress reminded us of elsa from frozen. that was a huge bonus for daani!

it was one of the husband’s first times out with daani for a long period with her new stance as a potty-trained little girl. he kept asking her if she had to go pee. i think after seeing how successful she is at communicating to us when she has to go, he got a little more confident in her new abiliity. thank god!

we tried our first family #rockthatwall shot and came up flat. we are going to have to work on that!
